Independent engineering judgment for asset owners when capital is committed, when a contractor delivers, and when a system is accepted into operation. It comes from an engineer who has carried that accountability for 26 years.

BB-003THE OTHER VOICEREV 26
Asset owners are most exposed when they commit capital, when a contractor delivers, and when they accept a system into operation. At each of those three moments, the most confident voice in the room belongs to the party being paid.
I exist to be the other voice.
01 COMMITMENT
“Is this scope, specification and contractor sound before we spend?”
02 DELIVERY
“Is what's being built what we paid for, and is this variation justified?”
03 ACCEPTANCE
“Is this system genuinely ready to take into operation?”
I diagnose risk before it becomes failure. I review substation refurbishments, control-system upgrades and commissioning packs, and I catch the fault before handover instead of after. Every conclusion I reach is traceable to evidence.

I read a plant's numbers as fluently as its wiring diagrams.
Performance is an organisational property, not just an equipment one. I have carried departmental and regional P&L. I have raised OEE to 81% and cut operating costs by 12% and 18%. My MBA research into South African tyre manufacturing showed why technical fixes fail without traceability, lean discipline and genuine buy-in.
Machines don't resist change. People do, usually for good reasons.
I have led teams of up to 58 people, cut incidents by 26.4% and raised technical proficiency by 19%. My PhD research looks at how workers craft their jobs and protect their dignity under pressure, because lasting improvement depends on understanding the people inside the system.

A fault is a symptom. Throughput, cost, safety and morale are the system. I was trained on the plant floor, and I learned to lead from the P&L.
Not just whether a system works, but why it works, and what would make it fail.
EARLY 2000s
The plant floor
I didn't start behind a desk. I started as an electronic technician, repairing and re-commissioning automated payment machines. That work taught me early that a system is only as trustworthy as the evidence behind it. I moved on to diagnosing faults and commissioning production equipment in automotive manufacturing.
MID-2000s → 2010s
Learning to lead
I became an engineering supervisor who managed repairs, budgets and a quality system, and I finished my BTech in Electrical Engineering at night in 2010. After that came electrical engineer, then maintenance engineer in dairy processing, then engineering superintendent. Eventually Head of Electrical Engineering, leading 58 people with full P&L accountability.
2010s → 2020s
Widening the scope
Reliability engineering at a global tyre manufacturer. Electric vehicle systems and micro-grid engineering at a university. Then regional business leadership, with full revenue and P&L accountability for the first time. The scope grew from one machine, to a department, to a region.
MBA
The question behind the numbers
South African tyre plants could produce far more than they did, while consumers bought cheaper imports. I wanted to know why, properly. My MBA treatise analysed 93 responses from people working in the industry. The cause was rarely the equipment. It was traceability, lean implementation, and whether people genuinely bought into the change.
PhD · IN PROGRESS
A harder question
Why does buy-in matter more than the org chart admits? My PhD in Business Administration, now in its second year, studies how low-wage retail workers craft their jobs and balance family, community and professional identities under precarious conditions. It's a long way from switchgear, but it comes from the same instinct.

I'm a registered Professional Engineering Technologist leading technical service delivery and infrastructure maintenance for critical telecommunications facilities. I'm weighing where my judgment is best placed next.

Four points of exposure. One independent view.
Every engagement starts with a written scope that sets out deliverables, assumptions and limitations. You know exactly what I'll assess, how, and what I won't.
E-01
Pre-Appointment Review
BEFORE YOU APPOINT A CONTRACTOR OR COMMIT CAPITAL
Scope and specification review, technical tender evaluation, and a risk register you can take to the board.
E-02
Delivery & Variation Review
WHILE WORK IS UNDERWAY OR A MAJOR VARIATION LANDS
Independent assessment of progress against specification, and of whether a variation has a genuine technical basis.
E-03
Commissioning & Acceptance Witness
BEFORE YOU ACCEPT A SYSTEM INTO OPERATION
FAT and SAT witnessing, evidence-pack review, punch list, and a clear recommendation to accept or withhold.
E-04
Root Cause Investigation
AFTER A FAILURE, OR WHEN FAULTS REPEAT
Structured RCA with a documented evidence trail, and corrective actions that address the cause rather than the symptom.

04 FINDINGS
Written report and recommendation
My value depends on having no stake in the outcome I'm reviewing. I say so in writing, in every scope.
